Former Finance Minister Tito Mboweni Dies From a short chronic Illness in a private hospital in Johannesburg, in the late hours of Saturday.
In a tragic turn of events, South Africa has lost one of its most influential figures who has more than five tribute songs under his belt.
Former Finance Minister Tito Mboweni passed away in the late hour of 11th October succumbing to short chronic illness.
The ANC Stewart died in Johannesburg, surrounded by his family members and close friends.
The family representative tweeted “It is with deep sadness that the Mboweni family announces the passing of former Reserve Bank governor and minister of finance, Tito Titus Mboweni. The family is devastated by governor Mboweni’s passing after a short illness,” the statement read.
Mboweni, who served as Finance Minister from 2018 to 2021, was widely known for his candidness, sharp economic insights, and unwavering commitment to improving South Africa’s fiscal discipline.
His death comes as a significant blow to the country’s economic and political landscape, as many considered him a stabilizing force in times of financial turbulence.
