Umkhokha: The Curse actress Deli Malinga (MamZobe) asks for donations

Umkhokha: The Curse Actress Deli Malinga Seeks Sponsorship for Kenyan Award Show

In a heartfelt appeal on her Facebook page, Deli Malinga, the talented actress from Umkhokha: The Curse, is on the lookout for sponsorship to attend an award show in Kenya. “What an honor being nominated for African Female Actor of the Year,” she expressed, highlighting the significance of the recognition that extends beyond South Africa. “I just see God in all of this,” she added, acknowledging the support from her fans who’ve been with her since day one.

Representing Umlazi and Beyond
Malinga proudly represents her hometown, Umlazi in Durban, as well as the Umkhokha: The Curse production team, Mzansi channel, and South Africa at large. “The sad part,” she reflected, “to participate will be fully on me. Wish I could get sponsors going to Kenya.”

A Celebrated Career
Recently, Malinga’s talent was recognized when she won Best Actress at the Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and Television Award for her role as Mamzobe. In an interview with Sowetan, she shared her excitement: “I’m so over the moon. Being recognised is the best feeling one could ever have. This award is validation for my craft, considering how I started. It was not easy to get here but it gives me such pride to be known and labelled as the best in my community.”

Malinga also revealed that playing the role of MaMzobe was a personal challenge. “I had to convince myself that I could play a villain,” she said, never expecting her character to last this long or even win an award. Her previous accolades include a SAFTA for Best Supporting Actress in a Telenovela for her role as MaNgema in Redemption.

‘Umkhokha: The Curse’ Comes to an End
The beloved faith-based telenovela, Umkhokha: The Curse, concluded its run on February 28, wrapping up a two-year journey that started in October 2021. The series, which returned in March 2023 under its new title, featured a talented cast including Sibongile Ngubane as Difa, Nay Maps as Sphamandla, and Hope Mbhele as Mabusi. Fans across South Africa took to social media to express their gratitude for the captivating storytelling and performances delivered by the Mzansi Magic show.

As Malinga seeks support to attend the award show in Kenya, one can’t help but root for her success. After all, in her own words, “Being recognised is the best feeling one could ever have.” Let’s hope she finds the sponsorship she needs, because who wouldn’t want to see her shine on yet another international stage?
